Biography

Hammerspace is a virtual band and original RPG / adventure storyline project by Timothy Branch. While the music is dubbed as "Nerd Metal," styles range from Thrash and Symphonic Metal with elements of Industrial Metal present. The band warrants it's genre tag mainly from the lyrical content of the songs, which ranges from classic gaming to repetitive death in video games, as well as songs that encompass the bands' own RPG-esque storyline.

The band itself consists of Leon Valasek (Vocals), Luna Baylock (Bass), Kain Glasgow (Guitars), and Flip Douglas (Drums), with each members' first name being a reference in a particular video game or video game series (Resident Evil, LUNAR, Final Fantasy II and Mega Man, respectively), as well as several other references to gaming present in the bands' songs, (e.g. "Timeline" covers the storyline from "The Legend of Zelda II," and features an Ocarina solo, Link's most prominent instrument).

The band's original storyline takes place in the land of Deganroth and is portrayed through several songs in their releases (e.g. "Dreamland," "Signal Strength," etc.). Though not much can be gathered, one can interpret Deganroth as a dark, corrupt world, as told in the songs.

Hammerspace's first release, "The Kings of Mediocrity" EP, was released on July 1, 2012 and was met by an overall good reception by reviewers and fans alike, being likened to groups such as Mortiferous Scorn, Samael, and Dethklok, as well as "Into The Future" being featured on Torn Flesh Records' milestone 500th release, "Brutally Honest Music." "The Kings of Mediocrity" is non-canon to the Deganroth storyline, but rather features songs that reference video games and gaming (and the evolution thereof). In contrast, the band's full-length release, "Volume 1," mainly focuses on songs that are directly related to the Deganroth storyline, though there are non-canon tracks as well. The album is currently awaiting release on October 26, 2012.
