Have you listened to the fairly recent interview with Sarah Jezebel Deva? From what I've gathered, it's not Dani that is the kvnt, especially not back in the day. She explicitly states many times that Dani was one of the only members who was kind to her and had her back. It's a really illuminating interview! https://youtu.be/wSB-kRAaRoA?si=MiB84a09rurvL99u

He might treat one person differently than others. Once Cradle started to get some international attention and the eyes of bigger labels after Cruelty Dani shit canned Stuart RIP out of nowhere, Nick Barker, and Lecter. Dani removed everyone (either outright or by causing conflicts) that had any claim to the band and it became "Dani and the Filths" - As per Stuarts interview. I still like their music, of course. But Dani is just a skeevy business man. It would have been great to see something beyond profit seeking.

Only "Orgiastic Pleasures Foul" and "Total Fucking Darkness" demos are good. The rest is pure garbage.

Bwahahah. That's total horseshit. Those demos are pretty unlistenable. How can you not listen to 'Dusk... and Her Embrace' and 'Cruelty and the Beast' and not appreciate the dense atmosphere, lyrical prowess, and meandering (yet catchy/memorable) song structures?

Maybe one day i'll get it, but I never really understood the hype about CoF. They just sound all over the place, but not in a good way like Children of Bodoms early stuff.

So funny how different people perceive music differently. CoF's early song structures were meandering, but they all sounded very coherent to my ears. Early Bodom (first three albums, four at a stretch) were awesome!

Nice to see somebody else who knows of Withering Surface, though. 'Joyless Journey' is a tune!

This is really cheesy and corny. I mean I don't mind a bit of cheese in metal but this is really memeworthy. Dani's voice is definitely unique, not saying it's bad but it's definitely not for me. They do have a few catchy riffs here and there though. I'd much rather listen to King Diamond if I'm in the mood for this type of metal. I really want to like them but I can't. Oh well

Ohhh yeah. Cruelty is a great choice. Dusk might take a while to get used to but Funeral in Carpathia is just immaculate. I still remember discovering Cradle... Glad they're still with me! Dani is indeed unreal!! :D

I'll have to return to it at some point then. It was pretty underwhelming for me when I heard it at first. Any standouts?

Red Roses for the devil's whore! Don't feel bad you still listen to Cradle of Filth in 2023. The compositions and writing are unique. The older albums are best (Nymphetamine and older).

Trouble and their double lives sounds great considering is a live performance, this is a real band, no playback, no synthetic voices, no drum machines all instruments and voices are real in the stage 5 of 5 stars

They cherrypicked these live tracks from tours spanning several years. I saw them last in 2021 and Dani was way off timing on some songs, sounded like ass on others. Even on Trouble And Their Double Lives you can hear Dani's screams sound funky right out the gate. I really enjoy their studio tracks, but they leave quite a bit to be desired live.

That is the nature of true black metal. Posers can't handle it, so they hate it.

really loving the new live record! Great song choices and the band really brought their A-game. I hope to hear more live recordings in the not too far off future!

The releases from (and including) Principle to Cruelty are fantastic and I have fond memories of listening to Cruelty on a crappy portable CD player while walking through Leicester in the pissing rain, on the way back home. I enjoyed some bits of Damnation (the live orchestra was ambitious) and then lost interest after Nympthetamine. He deserves respect for the band's longevity and the ambition shown throughout the years.

LOL, i can kinda see where she's coming from, tbh, but i liked Dimmu up to In Sorte Diaboli too, even if it's overblown as all hell (after that it's too overblown with the symphonies even for my liking :D). Gotta say Cradle are much more complex rhythmically/in terms of songwriting tho.

I'm old enough to remember the dreary period of the mid-2000s when no name clowns in shit black metal bands would cell them sellouts. Now closing in on 2023 they're rightfully scene as one of the greatest metal bands to rise from the underground, who went on to influence a slew of bands ranging from Motionless in White, Bleeding Through, to Belphegor and Ghost. They're immortal

It's just another way to tell they're a great band 😎. Jokes aside tho, it is a stupid term that only narrowminded idiots use, well, their loss, not mine :D

I did buy my first and only Cradle of Filth shirt (cruelty and the beast) at a hot topic, so I cannot argue against that point. Then again, I dont recall them ever selling any CoF CDs, and this was in the late 90s, before Hot Topic fully sold out, so I have conflicting and contradictory evidence on that front.

Always loved CoF, been on a random journey over the past few years and rediscovered them again, happy to see a couple of new albums to sink my teeth in.

Mayhem

I love that they still grow strong and release quality albums. Last three ones are beasts. My favorite still is Damnation and a Day though, which I think is quite overlooked.
