What I remember this album most for is that I bought the CD and when I tried to play it with my PC, my main way of listening to music, they'd tried to make it so you could only listen to it with a supplied proprietary music player that played shitty mp3-versions of the tracks. Fuck the paying customer, am I right? It was stupid because when I ripped the tracks for my mp3-player it worked fine, so what the fuck was the point even? Music industry is such bunch of anti-consumer shitheels it's not even funny. That's my story as I remember it. The album is ok I guess, kinda forgettable.

If you ignore the outdated and kind of shallow political messages, it's a pretty good album. Way more stripped down than the two "main" albums that come before and after it. I like Hello Nasty and Hot Sauce Committee more than this, but it works as a little detour and tribute to old-school hip-hop.

Ha, imgettinglastfm's posts just show how few people are commenting on this album. Honestly it's one of my most listened to Beastie Boys albums, and probably the one I enjoy the most. It has a very unified sound, and all three of them let fly with some of their most original rhymes. Mike D especially owns this one.

This one is it. 5 years straight of commenting on it, but this is another special one. Here it goes. I've listened to this for the first day of school for 10 years straight now, I think. And this is the final one, my last complete school year. Incredible. Thank you so much, Beastie Boys.

You know how it goes, I've listened to this for the first day of school for 9 years straight now, I think. But this is a very special one... R.I.P. Adam "MCA" Yauch :(

Every time I listen to this album, it just flies by, which is good, but... nothing really sticks to me. With the exception of the opening track, I can barely remember what any of the songs sound like after listening to the album. It's an ok album, just not as good as enticing as the others.

One of their best albums. I don't know why it's so overlooked, like someone else said.

I snubbed this when it came out, just put it on tonight for the first time in ages, it's really not bad!

Was really disappointed with this when it came out, but have just returned to it and it's really good.

I think Ill Communication is the weakest. Not that their weakest is bad, obviously. Quite good compared to most other things. I think it goes something like this: 1. Paul's Boutique 2. Check Your Head 3. To the 5 Boroughs 4. Hello Nasty 5. Licensed to Ill 6. Ill Communication ... Then their instrumental albums don't seem to be fair to rank anywhere there.

Weakest? Depends on what you're counting. How about The Mix Up? In terms of major releases, though, for me this is above Check Your Head but below Hello Nasty and wayyy below Paul's Boutique, maybe on par with Licensed to Ill and Ill Communication.
